First, if all old people rely on governmental support, this would put a weighty financial burden on the government budget, which in turn would prevent investments in other social issues and put strains on taxpayers. Furthermore, government support may be insufficient for the elderly to lead a satisfactory life. By taking ownership of their retirement by sparing part of their salary to pay for their pension schemes during their working years, the elderly can manage their own budget and have a more enjoyable life rather than just having enough money for basic necessities. Besides that, for those who are not covered by pension schemes, they can be taken care of by their children instead of being dependent on governmental fund. From Quỳnh Thương to Everyone: 08:48 PM However, I am more convinced of the idea that the elderly should be financially independent by planning to prepare their own retirement early rather than relying on the government. It is not only to avoid placing a burden on the government but also for them to live a more enjoyable life later. [results] In this way, the government can have more resources to invest in solving other more pressing issues, while the retired can manage their own budget to lead a sufficient life. Secondly, it is common in Asian that in many families, children are responsible for taking care of their parents who are not covered by pension schemes as a way of showing their respect and filial piety to who raised them up [this sentence is good but can be rephrased to better answer the Page 2 of 6 PP IELTS – ONLINE WRITING TASK 02 – BOTH VIEWS – LESSON 02 question]. Secondly, the elderly who are not covered by pension schemes can be taken care of by their children instead of relying on government subsidies. This is common in Asian countries where children tend to take responsibility for taking care of their parents as a way of showing their respect and filial piety to who raised them up. From Nghi Lê to Everyone: 08:51 PM However, I am convinced that the elderly should start planning ahead to have their retirement covered sufficiently. Firstly, a culture of saving up for retirement rather than depending on the government could foster the economic development???. In the words, if people were to accumulate their savings for the pension age, it would reduce the financial burden on the government because government support may be insufficient for the elderly to lead a satisfactory life [sau because ko hề giải thích cho phía trước]. Instead of that, being financially independent, the elderly can manage their own budget and enjoy a pleasurable life. Secondly, people who are not covered by pension schemes would be able to be supported by their children. For instance, in Asian cultures, elder people are thoroughly supported by their children in terms of medical care rather than relying on government support. [this can be written in another hơn là repeat the previous idea] From Mai Trần to Everyone: 08:56 PM On the one hand, there is a belief that old people should have the right to receive government aid. It is undeniable that old people are incapable of earning money and many live in dire situations, so they are more subjected to illnesses and diseases. The elderly whose cost of living is not covered by pension schemes tend to lack adequate health care treatment and suffer from serious health issues. Besides that, without financial support, some old people may resort to becoming beggars on the streets. Protecting these vulnerable old people is a way for the government to ensure social welfare and basic rights for its citizens, since the life of any individual is worth being protected. The life of any individual is worth beign protected From Kim Phung to Everyone: 08:58 PM Nevertheless, I am more of the opinion that the elderly should be self-reliant and start planning ahead for their retirement. As the government has to should responsibility for solving a range of pressing issues, additional financial aids for old people may put a weighty burden on the authorities and prevent them from resolving other critical issues. Moreover, retired workers who contributed part of their salary during in the earlier working years to the pension schemes could have more resources to ensure a decent living standard in later stage, thus leading to a more Page 3 of 6 PP IELTS – ONLINE WRITING TASK 02 – BOTH VIEWS – LESSON 02 satisfactory life than those who rely heavily on limited state support. Besides that, senior citizens who are not covered by such scheme could turn to their family members for financial help, which is the common case in many Asian countries where taking care of the parents are often considered the duties of their children instead of the government. [well done!!] From Lan Anh to Everyone: 08:59 PM I am more convinced that the elderly should start planning ahead to have their retirement covered sufficiently. First, if elderly relied on government support, it would place a burden on the government, which might prevent investments in solving other issues like education, infrastructures,… Moreover, government support may be insufficient for the elderly to lead a satisfactory life. Being financially independent, the elderly can manage their own budget and have a more enjoyable life. Second, for those who are not covered by pension schemes, the elderly can be taken by their children. It is very common in Asian countries where parents are supported by their children like a duty the rather than relying on government support. From anh to Everyone: 09:03 PM On the one hand, others would argue that retired people should be financially supported by the government. Since the elderly especially those with physical impairments, war veterans, and those living under the poverty line, are in dire situations to lead a decent life. As a consequence of receiving less or no financial support from the government, these senior citizens are subjected to serious health issues and might resort to becoming street beggars. If the governments carry out aid in terms of elderly care, the elderly are very like to enjoy a more decent living standard, which is a way for the government to ensure social welfare for its citizens. From Nghiêm Nguyễn to Everyone: 09:03 PM However, I am more convinced that the elderly should take ownership of their retirement. Firstly, the fund to provide financial support for elderly people is some kind of burden on the government budget , which would prevent the authorities from solving other more pressing issues such as …. and put pressure on tax payers. Moreover, government support may be insufficient for the elderly to lead a satisfactory life. Secondly, the elderly who are not covered by pension schemes / can be supported by their children rather than relying on government support. For example, in Asian countries where the elderly are totally taken care of by their children. While government subsidies are essential under some circumstances, I am convinced that senior citizens should handle their own finances. On the one hand, financial support from the government will ensure a livelihood for all elderly people, especially those in dire situations. Frail seniors such as war veterans with physical or psychological impairments, the impoverished, or those who remain homeless deserve government support for a more decent living standard in their later year. Without support, they may resort to becoming street beggars and be more vulnerable to health problems, and even death. Aid in terms of elderly care is part of the government’s responsibility for the welfare of its citizens, since the life of all individuals is worth protecting. However, I would argue that senior citizens should take ownership of their retirement rather than depending on government support. Throughout their working years, the retired have been required to spare part of their salary to their pensions, which would serve as a sufficient source of income for their retirement years. Reliance on subsidies, on the other hand, might put a weighty financial burden on the government budget; and for some individuals, the amount is inadequate to lead an enjoyable life. Those who are not covered by pension schemes can rely on their family support, which is commonly the case in Asian countries where children usually take responsibility for the care of their elderly. In conclusion, I firmly believe that government subsidies should only be granted to people in certain conditions, while, general, people ought to start planning ahead for their retirement to ensure they are provided for sufficiently during their retirement.
