SIGA-UM and SIGA-MAB
Universal Class A/B Modules
SPECIFICATION DATA
FEATURES
• 15 functions in one.
• Non-volatile memory.
• Integral microprocessor.
• High ambient temperature operation (up to 120°F
[49°C]).
• Electronic addressing and device mapping.
• One red and one green status LED.
• Designed and manufactured to ISO9001 standards.
GENERAL
• Models for electrical box or I/O motherboard
mounting.
The SIGA-UM and SIGA-MAB Class A/B modules are
intelligent, addressable devices used for the following
applications:
— One Class A or two Class B initiating device circuits
(IDC).
— One Class A or B indicating (signal) appliance circuit
(IAC).
— One Class A or B circuit for 2-wire smoke detectors.
— One Form “C” (NO/NC) dry output contact relay.
These modules provide the features of up to 15 function to
support multiple applications including Class A or B device
circuit wiring, Class A or B 2-wire smoke detector circuits, and
delayed latching (retard) for water flow alarm applications.
The personality code for either device is assigned during
system configuration using the system definition utility. The
code is downloaded from the controller.
Continuously running self-diagnostics update device statistics
and store them in a history log in non-volatile memory. The
history log contains information including hours of operation,
last maintenance date, number of alarms and troubles and
time and date of last alarm.
The electronically coded serial number and address allow
controllers on the same circuit to map automatically the
location of the module and use that information in “as built”
drawings.

SIGA-UM AND SIGA-MAB UNIVERSAL CLASS A/B MODULES
accommodate individual risers for each on-board module, or
shared risers in any combination with their UIO modules. All
wiring connections are made to terminal blocks on the
motherboard. UIO assemblies can be mounted in Honeywell
enclosures. The SIGA-MAB can be used to connect any one
of the following:
• Two Class B or one Class A initiating device circuits.
• One Class A or B circuit for 2-wire smoke detectors.
• One Class A or B indicating appliance circuit.
DESCRIPTION
The SIGA-UM and SIGA-MAB Universal Class A/B Modules
gather information from the devices and convert that
information into digital signals. An on-board microprocessor
measures and analyzes the signal and decides whether or
not to input an alarm.
The module constantly runs self-checks to provide important
maintenance information. The modules store the results of
the self-check in its permanent on-volatile memory. Some or
all of this information can be printed for review from the
control panel on the XLS1000 Loop Controller, a personal
computer (PC) laptop interface, or the Service Tool. History
log information includes:
• Module serial number, address, and type.
• Date of manufacture, hours of operation, and last
maintenance date.
• Number of recorded alarms and troubles.
• Time and date of last alarm.
• A maximum of 32 possible trouble codes that the module
can use to specify faults.
TYPICAL WIRING AND APPLICATIONS
The modules accept 18 AWG (0.75 mm2), 16 AWG
(1.0 mm2), and 14 AWG (1.5 mm2) wire sizes.
NOTE: Sizes 16 AWG (1.0 mm2) and 14 AWG (1.5 mm2)
are preferred for ease of installation.
Initiating Device Circuit Wire Specifications
Maximum Allowable Wire Resistance: 50 ohms (25 ohms per
wire) per circuit.
Maximum Allowable Wire Capacitance: 0.1µF per circuit.
On board intelligence permits the modules to operate in
stand-alone mode. If controller communication fails for more
than four seconds but remains powered, all devices on that
circuit go into stand-alone mode. The circuit acts like a
conventional alarm receiving circuit. Each module on the
circuit continues to collect and analyze information from its
surroundings. Modules configured as alarm devices alarm if
the connected alarm initiating device activates.
Table 1. Distances Allowable for each Wire Size.
On-board intelligence also means less information needs to
be sent between the module and the loop controller. Other
than regular supervisory polling response, the module only
needs to communicate with the loop controller when it has a
new condition to report. This feature provides very fast
response time and allows use of a lower baud rate for
communication on the loop. The lower baud rate offers
several advantages, including:
• Less sensitivity to loop wire characteristics.
• Less sensitivity to noise glitches on the cable.
• Less emitted noise from the wiring.
Maximum Distance to end of

CAUTION
Equipment Damage.
This module operates on electrical power. Fires often
cause power interruption. Discuss further safeguards
with your fire protection specialist.
Applications
The actual duty performed by the SIGA-UM and SIGA-MAB is
determined by its sub-type or “personality code.” The code is
selected for the desired application, It is assigned during
system definition and downloaded from the loop controller.
The SIGA-UM installs to a standard North American 2-gang
electrical box, making it ideal for locations where only one
module is required. Separate I/O and data loop connections
are made to each module. The SIGA-UM can be used to
connect any one of the following items:
• Two Class B or one Class A initiating device circuits.
• One Class A or B indicating appliance circuit.
• One Class A or B circuit for 2-wire smoke detectors.
• One Form C (no/nc) dry output contact relay.
Personality codes are assigned to each address. Only codes
0,1,2,3, and 4 can be mixed on any one module. For
example, personality code 1 can be assigned to the first
address (circuit A) and code 4 can be assigned to the second
address (circuit B). All other codes automatically use up both
addresses simultaneously, so they cannot be mixed.
The SIGA MAB is part of the Universal Input/Output (UIO)
family of plug-in Signature Series models. It takes advantage
of the modular flexibility and easy installation that
characterizes all UIO models. Two-module and six-module
UIO motherboards are available. These motherboards can

Personality codes are assigned to each address. Only codes
1,2,3, and 4 can be mixed on any individual module. For
example, personality code 1 can be assigned to the first
address (circuit A) and code 4 can be assigned to the second
address (circuit B). All other codes automatically use up both
addresses at the same time, so they cannot be mixed.

SPECIFICATIONS
Operating Voltage:
15.2 Vdc to 19.95 Vdc (19 Vdc nominal).
Type Code:
53 (Factory set).
15 sub-types (personality codes) available.
LED Operation:
On-board green LED flashes when polled.
On-board red LED flashes when in alarm state, active state,
or both.
Both LED glow steady when in alarm (stand alone).
The LED are visible only when the front plate is removed.
Personality codes are assigned to the SIGA-UM and SIGAMAB by the installer. Only codes 1,2,3, and 4 can be mixed
on any one module. For example, personality code 1 can be
assigned to the first address (circuit A) and personality code 4
can be assigned to the second address (circuit B). All other
personality codes use up both addresses simultaneously, so
they cannot be mixed.
Compatibility:
XLS1000 and XLS100 loop controllers.
Address Requirements:
Two module addresses.
Operating Environment:
Temperature: 32°F to 120°F (0°C to 60°C).
Humidity: 0% to 93% rh noncondensing.
Storage Temperature: –4°F to 140°F (-20°C to 60°C).
