Dear Students,
Your job is to write a letter from one character in The Picture of Dorian Gray to
another character in the same novel. In this letter you should express the
feelings of the writer toward the letter’s recipient. For example, you could write
a letter from Sybil Vane to her brother James, explaining why she loves Dorian so
much and asking him not to harm him. Or you could write as Basil Hallward to his
friend Lord Henry, expressing concern about the influence he is having on your
friend Dorian. Or you could write as Dorian to almost anyone else in the novel.
Your letter should follow the format you see demonstrated here. That means it
should include:
Heading at the top of the page, on the right side. Includes the date and your
address.
Salutation: Who you are writing to. For example, “Dear Alan,”. Remember the
comma!
Body: At least 3 paragraphs. Include a space between each paragraph.
Closing: Yours sincerely, Yours truly, Love, etc.
Signature: Written by hand, in ink
Letters will be due on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. It will be worth 10 points.
