The United States annexing Hawaii in 1900 is an example of imperialism. The way in which America
gained Hawaii as a territory was by overthrowing the already existing government. They did this with the
help of the United States military. This follows the definition of imperialism which involves gaining
power through military force.
The United States declining giving aid to Hungarian patriots in 1849 is an example of isolationism. In this
period America liked to follow this policy of isolationism because they it was still a newer country. It
didn’t want to be involved in the matters of other countries very much. They refused to give aid to
Hungary at the time because they didn’t want to be involved in the Hungarian Revolution War. This
follows the definition of isolationism which is a policy of staying apart from the affairs of other
countries.
An example of interventionism is when the United States attempted to mediate in the Venezuela-Great
Britain dispute in 1895. During this event, Venezuela and Great Britain had an argument about who
owned the gold between Great Britain and Venezuela. The US intervened to try and stop them. This is
interventionism because, well, the US intervened in other countries conflict.
