Women’s Roles
Women were an essential part of society
during the Inca period. The role of the woman was
based on their deity, Viracocha. They were first
man, and then woman.
Women were separate from men but were not
necessarily treated differently, but had different
tasks or expectations.

The road system that the Incas used was
very well engineered. The trails and bridges
built across the rough terrain of the Andes was
built by the Inca. They built suspension bridges
and pontoon bridges.

Machu Picchu was built by Pachacuti and it has four main purposes.
Agriculture, religion, nobility, and for residential purposes. This city was
never completed due to the smallpox outbreak from the Spanish
Conquest.
