DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (As a Staff Nurse)
 It includes Nursing Management responsibilities ,Emergency care and operating the equipment
time to time'
 As a staff nurse, my duties and responsibilities in the ward includes daily inventory take over
the patient case sheet medication and all other things from the previous duty staff.
 Making a clean bed, preparing the ward and arranging emergency trolley, visiting each patients
and observing them, checking their physical, psychological, nutritional status and level of
consciousness
 Administration of therapies
 Maintaining sterile techniques and carrying out doctors order
 Attending Doctors order and assisting them for various procedures
 Collection and sending specimens for investigation
 Independently carrying out nursing procedures like urinary catheterization, nasogastric feeding,
administration of therapeutics after safety checkup up to date and time, recording of nurses
record, checking vital signs and placement of IV lines, Monitory ECG, 02 saturation, bowel
and bladder wash, observing and informing any changes.
 Assessing all the needs of the patient
 Identifies patients universal health identification &time out procedure, assess cardiovascular,
respiratory vital signs ,IV Cannula insertion, medication and fluid administration ,taking up
laboratory Samples and make sure they are sent.
 Assisting in stabilizing patient's conditions ,actively participating in CPR, assisting in arterial
line insertion ,wound stitching ,irrigation and putting up tractions
 Provides accurate record of significant information such as laboratory results, vital sign
changes, intake and other significant data for the whole team.
 Provides a safe, Therapeutic, personalized physical and psychological environment for patient
care.
 Provides clinical guidance direction and co-ordination of activities for auxiliary and other new
nursing staff with in the area.
 Co-ordinate the work handed over to the next duty staff and inform sister in charge whatever
happens in the ward.
 Chart patient notes, records and report any vital information.
 Assist physician during bedside procedure.
 Maintain higher possible standards of aseptic techniques in the unit.
 Monitoring the respiratory pattern and the necessary implementations.
 Identify and satisfy the nutritional needs.
 Administration of medicines, intravenous fluid & TPN
 Sample collection – Venous and Capillary
 Assistance with endotracheal intubations and post procedure care.
 Perform endotracheal intubation independently in emergency situations.
 Ventilator care including suctioning.
 Take and hand over in each shift duties.
 Intake and output recording.
 Monitor and evaluate nursing care plan after carrying out each procedures.
 Maintain cleanliness of the unit.
 Ensure availability of articles and supplies in the unit.
 Shifting of patients to ward according to progress and physician’s order.
