1. What does the machine wash symbol refer to? This symbol means the clothing CAN be
washed in the washing machicne, washed or hand washed.
2. If the symbol contains one dot what does that mean? It means to wash at or below 30
degrees celcius.
3. If there is an x over the symbol, what does that mean? It means to not wash it
4. How should you separate your laundry? (hint list the 4 piles)
a. Lights
b. Darks
c. Delicates
d. White
5. Make sure to empty pockets, close zippers/buttons to prevent snagging, turn denim and
embellishment pieces inside out, and pretreat stains, and put your delicates in a mesh
bag.
6. What water temperature should you use for fine fabrics and delicates, sweaters, denim,
and clothes that may shrink? (Cold, Warm, or Hot) Why? Cold water because it is likely
to ruin clothes by shrinking or fading.
7. What temperature should your water be set on with whites and lights?
(Cold, Warm, or Hot) Why? Warm water because it can effectively lift the accumulation
of dirt, body oils, and stains while minimizing the risk of shrinkage.

9. List the steps to filling the Washing Machine:
1.Evenly distribute

3. Choose appropriate wash time
10. Define Washing Cycles:
a. Regular (normal)- 50 minuets to an hour, uses fast agitation and a hot wash
temperature between 120 and 140 degrees to help get messes out of items that
are subject to everyday normal wear and use.
b. Permanent Press- Helps reduce wrinkles and uses medium-temperature water
and air,
c. Delicate Cycle- delicate cycle uses low-temp water and air to ensure fragile
fabrics don't fray.

that cause irritation.
12. Explain the Hand Washing Method
13. Pretreat the item as needed for stains, then turn the item inside out.
14. Fill sink with water, room temperature water is usually best.

16. Submerge the item in water mixed with detergent. Use your hands to gently wash
garments, then soak items for up to 30 minutes. Do not scrub.
17. Rinse well. Use room temperature or cold water until the soapy water is gone

19. Define Drying Cycles:
a. Regular- Takes 30-45 minutes
b. Permanent Press- Reduce wrinkles, medium heat while drying and is best used
for colored fabrics
c. Delicate- Low heat, so drying time will be longer. It is best to use this setting to
use for delicate fabrics.
20. Air drying is the best method for sturdy items, cottons, polyesters, silks, and fabrics that
do not stretch.
21. Jeans and swim suits should be dried on a flat surface.
