What do you think is the importance of understanding the roots of the textile art in the
Philippines?
In my opinion, it is crucial to understand the roots of textile art in the Philippines since it plays a
vital role in our lives, not just in Filipino culture but also in the social, economic, and religious
aspects of our country. It is something that Filipinos should be proud of because our country's
textile art is one of the world's most distinctive works of art. Furthermore, recognizing the origins
of textile art implies that we value our ancestors' legacy, which they have passed down through
generations.
How would you promote Philippine textile art to a foreign fashion designer?
If I were to promote Philippine textile art to a foreign fashion designer, I would take advantage
of modern technology and various social media channels. For instance, I could create a video
clip, infographics, and flyers highlighting Filipino artistry and creativity in the creation of oneof-a-kind textile art and post them to my social media account, where many viewers will be able
to see my post and possibly catch the government's interest and help me in my advocacy. I believe
that would be the best way to promote the said art since social media platforms are accessible
around the world, and I’ll be able to do that easily even without going abroad on my own.
Additionally, if my first plan doesn’t work, I’ll create a group in which we will do a fun fundraising activity like an art exhibit featuring textile art in the Philippines and then have it broadcast
on television. Therefore, I think that method is indeed effective due to the fact that tons of
collectors and fans of textile art may go there.
How would you explain to a 7-year-old kid the significance and contributions of textile
art in the Philippine society?
If I am given a chance to explain to a 7-year-old kid the significance and contributions of textile
art in Philippine society, I will start by explaining to him what Philippine textile art is. In
particular, I will make it clear to him what materials are used in making textile art and why it is
important to understand its origin. Once he knows what it is, he will be able to distinguish its
significance in our lives, but to make it easier for him, I will also make a simple yet entertaining
video clip for him to watch. It contains the contributions of textile art to Philippine society,
specifically to our culture. Besides, children nowadays can easily learn from watching videos, so
I do believe that it is an effective method to teach the next generation about the arts of the past.
In addition, I will make it clear to him that textile art is the beginning of the fashion trends in this
country, where he was born and raised, so it is crucial for him to better know about it.
