Birthdays / Debut
A birthday is a tradition of marking the
anniversary of the birth of a person, a
fictional character, or an organization. A
person's birthday is the day when a person
first enters the living world. Birthdays are
celebrated all over the world in different
ways. Some people also celebrate the
birthdays of their gods, celebrities, and
founders of their religion.
The 18th birthday of a person holds special
significance in many cultures because at
this age the person is considered to be
transformed from a child to an adult. The
25th birthday is known as a Silver Jubilee,
the 50th birthday means a Golden Jubilee,
and if you are lucky enough to celebrate
your 100th birthday, then it is known as a
Platinum Jubilee.

put into gaining your qualification, and it
gives you a great chance to celebrate all
that you have achieved.

Reunions
These events provide a chance
for people to catch up with old
friends, get to know their former
classmates as adults and
reminisce about memories from
their school days. Many people
who moved away from their
hometowns would never see
their old classmates again
without reunion.

The Event
Industry in
General
Understanding
the Events
Industry
A company conference, a trade
show, a product launch, a music
festival, a sport event, a wedding, a
fashion show – all of these are
examples of business opportunities
around which the industry is
building its fortune.
Meetings, conferences, events and exhibitions
are a key driver of tourism destinations across
the globe. In the USA, they generate almost one
trillion dollars in direct, indirect and induced
spending. In Europe, the event industry
continues to grow steadily. In Asia, it is
booming. As a result, tourist destinations
around the world are realizing that events are a
vital component in attracting holidaymakers.
Without them, they are at risk at losing out.
Characteristics of
an Event
A Platform for Interaction and
Networking
Events are the best platform where
the target audience or the
consumers get a chance to meet the
producers of products. The products
are brought to the end user through
innovative methods and interaction.
Creating Live Experiences
Events aim to provide memorable
experiences. They create experiences for
attendees of events like weddings, sports
events, festivals, road shows and so on. Every
experience provided by events is unique. The
latest trends in managed events, weddings,
MICE, digital events and many others, are
experiential. This is because the available
technology is affordable and effective. Hence
we get to see more of live and experiential.
Ritual and Ceremony
This is the major characteristic of events.
Ritual and ceremony emphasize the
continuity of tradition.
Labour Intensiveness and Networking with
Vendors
Depending on the scale of event, the event is
planned and staged. The more complex and
more unique an event is, the more likely it is to
be labour intensive, both in terms of
organisation and operation. The skills of the
event team are veryimportant for concept
development. - Another key characteristic is the
network with the vendors / supply chain. EMCs
are the essential link between client and
vendor. They have the ability to source,
negotiate and get the work done by the vendors
who are various service providers.
Fixed Time Scale
Events have a fixed time scale and are not like
routine activities that can be carried out
indefinitely. In short, events do not go on forever.
Financial Planning
Financial planning is very important for the
event. It depends upon how big the event is going
to be and the number of visitors attending it. It
also depends on what it will cost to hold the
event and whether it has to be profitable.
Ambience
Ambience is that very essential characteristic
that seeks to ensure whether the event is a
success or a failure.
Creative Edge and the ‘Wow Factor’
The greatest skill for the event manager is to use
creativity in providing an event. Ideation and
creativity are the key strengths of the event
industry today. The ‘Wow’ factor of events is an
essential characteristic, which owes the event a
memorable experience. Itcan be achieved by
using creativity through an interplay of unusual
venues, artistic decor and activities that can
make the event a success.
