Copyright: Valiant Communications Limited 22 VCL-2156 Section 3 Section 3 CLI Command Functionality How CLI commands work Copyright: Valiant Communications Limited 23 VCL-2156 1. CLI Command Functionality To configure or show any configuration in system type the relevant CLI command followed by a space, followed by option. Each option is separated by a 'space'. Example: Command FORMAT: setjumboframe <port> <option> <CLI prompt>setjumboframe 1 enable or <CLI prompt>setjumboframe 4 disable 2. Intuitive Commands Intuitive / predictive command-set help users in typing commands quickly and correctly. To get help from intuitive command-set, type a few letters of the command followed by the 'Tab' key. Example: <CLI prompt>showtime{Tab Key}{Tab Key} showtime showtimeformat showtimemode showtimezone Example: > showtimef{Tab Key} > showtimeformat 3. Command History Previously used command may be accessed by using UP and DOWN arrow keys. 4. Executing any CLI command shall return the execution status of 'SUCCESS' or 'FAIL'. In case of a failed attempt, the system shall return the possible failure cause. i.e; 'SYNTAX ERROR' or possible failure cause along with 'FAIL' message. Example: <CLI prompt> setsysmask 23.2.3.4 SYNTAX ERROR <CLI prompt> settimeformat 10 SYNTAX ERROR FORMAT CAN ONLY BE EITHER 12 or 24 5. No commands are 'Case Sensitive' though they may be shown in upper and lower case in the user manual for better presentation purpose. Both lower and upper case commands are accepted. 6. Command list may be shown by typing '?' or 'help' followed by an enter key. 7. To get help for a particular command type '?' followed by the 'CLI command text' and then followed by the 'Enter' key. <CLI prompt>? help FORMAT: help OPTIONS: NONE DESCRIPTION: Show system commands list.
