CASASOS, CARMELA MAE A. BSA 2F MS. VICTORIA GODINEZ MAY 27, 2022 GREAT BOOKS FINAL EXAMINATION 1. Aside from the Little Prince, name two more characters that you find interesting. Explain your choices. The other two characters that I find interesting in the story of “The Little Prince” are definitely the fox and the narrator. As I was reading the novel, I noticed the contrasting roles of the two, and yet they both play important parts in Little Prince’s journey. While the fox took the role of an instructor, the narrator was more similar to a pupil that learned through his friendship with the little prince. My reason for choosing the fox is because of its wisdom, and even with such a short amount of time, we had learned meaningful lessons and insights about relationships, uniqueness, and responsibilities. The fox reminded me that even though time feels even faster after becoming an adult, we should learn how to have patience in forming relationships with others, and that we must still approach those we are forming our bonds with tenderness. Another character that I thought was interesting is the narrator who is also a pilot that crashed in the Sahara Desert and met the Little Prince. What striked me the whole time was their child-like view of the world despite their age. His stories about the Little Prince are already enough to make you feel wary about interacting with him, and it made me realize how much we have been robbed off of our ability to explore our imaginations once in a while because they are deemed “childish” by our society. These two characters, they’re different from each other, but somehow, they’ve imparted to us a lot of lessons, directly and indirectly, that we tend to forget as we go through with life. 2. Choose two quotations from the novelle. Identify the context in which each quote was given, i.e. speaker, who is being spoken to in an incident/event/situation. Explain and then react to the quote. Quote 1: “Only the children know what they are looking for.” This is a line that was said by the little prince when talking to a railway switchman when the former asked the latter what the train passengers are pursuing, to which the latter said that they are pursuing nothing. For me, this one really struck a cord because I am someone who’s currently transitioning to adulthood. Everyday, I understand why adults barely describe themselves feeling truly alive, and it’s because they are constantly faced with problems that even they don’t CASASOS, CARMELA MAE A. BSA 2F MS. VICTORIA GODINEZ MAY 27, 2022 know the solutions to. The responsibilities they have as adults are far heavier than those we have as a child, and so when the prince said this line, it stuck. Yes, the passengers do have a destination to go to, but the children are the ones who innocently, yet bravely, experience the actual journey in hopes of finding theirs. The adults simply let the train take them where exactly they have to be. Quote 2: “It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.” This line was said by the fox to the Little Prince when the former was telling the latter a lesson about taming. In this scene, the fox was telling the Little prince of the importance of having patience when one wants to form a friendship with others, and that the mere act of patience and persistence, is what makes the relationship unique from others. When we take the time to truly understand others, and when we take time to nourish the relationship we have with these people, is when the value forms in both the person and the relationship. 3.
