What’s New in GoodReader® 5.8 iOS 14 is finally here, and GoodReader 5.8 comes prepared. Two of the iOS's new features — Widgets and Scribble — work perfectly with GoodReader. Widgets • Go to where you usually see the Widgets area on your device. The actual location varies from device to device, but generally, when you're looking at the home screen, swipe right until the Widgets area appears. There, you’ll see the standard widgets like Weather, Maps, and so on. Scroll to the bottom. The Edit button will appear. Tap it. The “+” button will appear at the top — this is how you add custom widgets. Find GoodReader on the list and select it. • You’ll see a selection of three widgets of different sizes. The smallest one offers a quick shortcut to a specific file of your choice. The medium and large ones offer a selection of most used buttons such as Back to Reading, Sync and Starred, and an auto-updated list of most recent files. Select the one you want and it will be added to the system. Rearrange your widgets to your liking. On an iPhone, you can even drag them onto the Home Screen! • If you choose the smallest widget — a shortcut to a specific file, you’ll have to manually select the file for the shortcut before the widget can operate properly. You do that by tapping-and-holding the existing widget and selecting Edit Widget from the popup menu. There, tap the File link. A list of most recent GoodReader files will appear. Choose the one you need. If you don't see the file you're looking for, manually find and open it in GoodReader, and the next time you edit the widget, the file will appear in the most recent files list. • You can later change the file reference for the Shortcut Widget the same way you set it up the first time. • Medium and Large Widgets do not require any set up. They show you the list of GoodReader’s most recent files. • For security purposes, file names won’t appear in the list if you’re using an App Password, or if a file is password protected. Scribble • This is an amazing improvement for the users of Apple Pencil. For example, when making a Typewriter note annotation on a PDF, now you can simply write into the text entry window instead of typing! That's it! No setup needed. Language options may vary, but we're pretty sure that Apple will be adding support for more languages as they go.
