Teaching notes
The activity could be used in a variety of ways:



individual card sort
give each student a card and get them to find their two partners
put students into groups of two or three. Give one student the picture cards and the
answer sheet. They show the others a picture card. The pair should then name and
describe the organelle indicated.
The activity could be differentiated by giving the students the answer table with some of the
names and/or descriptions missing. The missing sections could be given to them on cards to fill
in the table. For more able students simply give them the answer table with just one section
filled in for each row.
Some of the organelles are common to both plant and animal cells, so the extra cards below
could be introduced as well.
