It is not by choice that children become orphans and therefore vulnerable and needy. If anything, it is the wish of every parent to live along enough and have the means to provide for and sustain their children through life for the longest. However this seldom happens. When a child is born to this world, their strongest link and therefore most reliable support, is usually the parents. But what happens if for whatever reason the parents either die or are rendered incapacitated and therefore unable to provide the necessary means of life for their offspring? Today the society is full of such children and youth, who are otherwise equal to other privileged humans. But lack of opportunities for basic and fundamental needs isolates and reduces them. A closer study into their case would reveal that even getting a meal becomes a challenge. In the event that their parents die, some usually end up living with relatives who make life miserable for them. For this reason, they opt to run away and start living in the streets As a result, those who may have been enrolled for basic education end up dropping out. In some instances, they drop out due to lack of fees as their new guardians are unwilling to continue paying for their schooling. Girls are usually the most affected on such situations. Once the right to basic education is withdrawn from them, they feel they have very limited options. Living in streets will endanger their lives even more. This is how/why some have resorted to immoral ways of life just to sustain themselves, this may explain the rising cases of young girls getting into prostitution and the increase in street families. Others opt for early marriages as means to cushion their troubles, which seldom happens. The streets are not safe and when worse comes to worse, there seens to be only but few options leftbegging by the roadside or robbery. Robbery has caused most of the young lives which would otherwise be useful if only the right opportunities were dished to them. You also hear of cases of suicide by these same vulnerable youth and children.
