The offing was barred by black bank of clouds, and the tranquil waterway
leading to the uttermost ends of the earth flowed sombre under an overcast
sky– which seemed to lead into the heart of an immense darkness. Albert was
rocking on his chair- back and forth- back and forth, to the beat on his own
heart, gradually slowing down. Just carelessly gazing out of the window
reaching out to nature.
The clouds started to swim in closer, the rain had started lashing vigorously
down at the ground. There was a sudden alert as the Germans unexpectedly
dashed into the east of Netherlands. It was a quick move as Albert, along with
other troops, were flown over to help the allied country against the deadly
invasion. He was placed in the front line and went into battle the very next day.
Armed and equipped, the team started to repel the invaders, they had begun
to seize back the land abruptly shells begun to robustly come flying at them,
explosives were dropped and the tanks raided in closer. Albert was hit by a
German snipper under his knee cap, causing him to fall on to the floor below
and let out a cry in uncontrollable agony. Medics close by hurried to the scene
and transferred the as many of the injured into hospitality as they could.
The suns light beamed directly into to his eyes causing him to squint as he rode
off to his wedding ceremony on the horse carriage. Arriving with family and
friends by his side- congratulating him as he entered the hall. That day he
married his wife. It was one day that he would never forget. She was the land
of his world.
Albert was at his wife’s side, sobbing and crying. The heart monitor showed a
straight vertical line, it was at that moment he knew part of him had vanished.
He went with his children and buried his wife, staying by the grave the whole
day, watching the tears from the clouds slowly fall to the soil beneath.
Awoken by the door of his house closing one day. He came to see a note his
children had left him. With shivering hands and sweaty palms, his heart was
left with nothing but distress. His children had moved away to find a different
path in life which could be better for them. The times he used to take them on
daily walks, the times he brought smiles to their faces started to come back to
him. He could only wish to see them again.
His head was slumped over to one side. The chair stopped rocking. No
movement- No sound- Nothing. There was no possibility of taking a walk that
day.
