New Era University College of Engineering and Architecture Student Name: (LN, FN, MI) Subject Code: MAYO, MICHAEL M. GECTCW-18 2ND YEAR, 2I-EE-1new Class Schedule: MW 8:30-10:00 AM TO BE AN ENGINEER AND A GLOBAL CITIZEN Engineers are pioneers in the field of inventing, developing, and innovating things. They have a lot of thoughts and ideas. But we can't deny that as a result of that evolution, our planet suffers over time, and climate change is one of the most visible and obvious examples. Engineers were the ones who bore the brunt of the blame. I'm aware that there are many different perspectives on what it means to be a global citizen, but my perspective is similar to Hugh Evans': "A global citizen is someone who selfidentifies first and foremost as a member of the human race, rather than as a member of the state, tribe, or nation." It gave me the notion of being a global citizen as identifying yourself as a member of the human race, and that you may live and connect with anyone wherever in the globe and become one as a world citizen. And this thought inspires me to pursue a career as a Civil Engineer in the future. We are now living in an era where being a global citizen is extremely important to us as engineers. As global citizens and engineers, we should begin to think of ourselves as members of a human race rather than members of a state or nation; human welfare must take precedence over our desires. We must broaden our thinking, be aware of the consequences of our actions, and understand and listen to the voices of individuals. Because we, as engineers, are not just the world's builders, we are also global citizens. To be a global citizen, in my opinion, is to be aware of one's actions and prepared to deal with the consequences of those actions, in collaboration with the entire human race, not for oneself or themselves, but for the planet to become more equal, fair, and sustainable.
