1. Read p. 48. Define the following in your own words based on your reading of the text:
a. What does it mean to be proactive?
Being proactive means taking responsibility for yourself and your actions and thinking before making choices.
b. What does it mean to be reactive?
Being reactive means to blame others and acting on impulse.

Why do you need to master Habit 1 before any of the others?
● You need to master Habit 1 before any of the others because you need to realize that you are in
control in order to better yourself with the remaining 6 habits.
Proactive or Reactive? Read pp. 49 & 50. Then answer the following questions.

● They make impulse decisions and can often have aggressive behavior.

● Proactive people think before they act and use values instead of emotions in how they respond.
5. Based on reading, and the examples Scenes on p. 50, complete the following table. Be specific and use
complete sentences.

complete sentences.
● The analogy of how proactive and reactive language is like a remote means that with reactive
language, the words you use makes people/things control how you feel/act, but with proactive
language you decide how you feel aka what channel you choose.

● The victimitis virus means that you think that everything is someone else’s fault and that
everything is out to get you.
