The role I recently moved into, Operations Performance Consultant, is a new position established within the Information Technology & Digital Systems (ITDS) department. My new job description declares: “The consultant develops, recommends, and implements strategic and operational action plans, drives accountability across internal teams, and/or performs other management duties as necessary to ensure successful completion of assigned initiatives within specified timeframes” with the scope being all teams in ITDS (about 350 staff/leadership). With these responsibilities on my shoulders in this new role, I am starting this course ready to absorb knowledge and learn new skills. This sentence in the course description is key to what I need in my new role and moving forward as a consultant: “The focus of the course is based on developing competencies related to skills required to practice consulting.” The objectives I want to focus on are as follows: Analyze the major elements of organization and management consulting: I think skills in both organization and management consulting will benefit me in my new role and as I progress in my career. Having a deep knowledge of these major elements will be critical. Execute the elements of a consulting engagement: Specifically, I hope to gain skills needed to execute consulting on large projects that involve multiple teams within an organization. Prepare, execute, and manage the feedback process: This will be specifically important as my role is new with a scope that I anticipate will expand as our healthcare system is set to merge with another in the coming months.
