GRADE LEVEL
Ways to Minimize Human Impact in the
Environment
Grade 8-STE
TIME ALLOTMENT
Friday 10:30-11:30 (60 minutes)
TEACHER
Mrs. Everly Joy J. Enriquez
TOPIC
CONTENT STANDARD
The learners demonstrate an understanding of the one-way flow of energy and the
cycling of materials in an ecosystem.
LEARNING COMPETENCY
Suggest ways to minimize human impact on the environment.
LEARNING MATERIALS
book, powerpoint presentations, pictures, handouts
OBJECTIVES
1. Identify the negative effects of human activities in the ecosystem.
2. Analyze different practices that disrupt a food chain or a food web.
3. Give desirable practices to conserve the environment.
Objective 16: Applied a personal philosophy of teaching that is learnercentered (learning objectives)

The teacher’s objectives were problem-based. It is the constructivism
philosophy of teaching that is learner-centered. The goal of the
teacher was to develop motivated and independent learners who are
equipped with learning skills in conserving the environment.
1. ELICIT

The teacher will
lesson about the different
present diagrams of
dioxide cycle, water cycle,
have a review of the
cycles in nature. She will
oxygen and carbon
and nitrogen cycle. The
students will identify each diagram.
2. ENGAGE
After identifying the different cycle in nature, the teacher will ask the students
some of the possible human activities that affect these cycles.
The students will predict the consequences of the activities using problemsolution or cause-effect pattern of grammatical signals for idea development, one
of their lessons in English.
rapid accumulation of CO2- global warming
illegal-logging- deforestation
greenhouse gas emissions- climate change
fertlizer run-off-water pollution
air pollution-acid rain
3. EXPLORE
Since the students already identified negative effects of human activities in
the ecosystem, it is now time for them to analyze different practices that disrupt a
food chain or a food web.
To start another activity, the teacher will mention one of the themes of
geography which is the human-environment interaction that is a part of their lesson
in Araling Panlipunan. This will lead her to the introduction of the idea that humans

are the top consumers in many food pyramids. This is the reason why human use
different methods to increase food production which in return disrupt the food
chain or food web.
The activity is about farming practices that affect food chain and food web
and their corresponding desirable practices to conserve the environment. The
class will be divided into six groups. Every group will be assigned with one topic
each. The students should analyze the farming practices and their counterparts
using the handouts provided by the teacher.
MONOCULTURE - GROW A VARIETY OF CROPS
HERBICIDES AND INSECTICIDES – BIOLOGICAL CONTROL OF INSECT PESTS
CHEMICAL FERTILIZERS – ORGANIC FARMING
Objective 16: Applied a personal philosophy of teaching that is
learner- centered (instructional activities)
 Students worked together in small groups to maximize
their own and each other’s learning. Cooperative, and
collaborative approach are both learner- centered and
under the constructivism philosophy of teaching.
4. EXPLAIN
After brainstorming, the students are going to share what they have
learned or discovered about the topic assigned to them. The teacher will start to
post an illustration of one of the farming practices. The group that is assigned to
that farming practice should recognize it since they have the idea of their topic.
After identifying the farming practice, each members will share something about it.
It will be followed by one of the groups assigned to the corresponsing desirable
practice of the farming practice. The members of the group will also share
something that they learned from the handouts. The procedure will continue until
all the topics are discussed.
5. ELABORATE
The teacher will just add additional information about the different farming
practices and the desirable practices to conserve the environment since most of
idea were already mentioned by the students during their group activity.
Students will watch a video of the song Masdan Mo ang Kapaligiran. The
teacher will give questions as guide for the students as they watch the video.

Students will also able to apply what they have learned because the teacher will
ask them to give ways to conserve the environment aside from those mentioned in
the lesson earlier.

To sum up the lesson, the teacher will call three students who will give a
short generalization for each farming practices and their corresponding desirable
practice to conserve the environment.
6. EVALUATE
Administer a short paper and pencil test.
Multiple Choice
1. The following are negative effects of human activities except.
a. reforestation
b. climate change
c. water pollution
2. Monoculture is the cultivation of single crop in large areas. This results to
deprivation of food and home of animals. What is the best way to do instead
of this?
a. use insects to fight other insects to protect plants
b. try organic farming
c. plant different types of crops
3. Using herbicides and insecticides help farmers to kill unwanted plants but
the chemicals in them also destroy beneficial organisms such as soil
organisms. To retain this helpful organisms, what can be an alternative to
herbicides and insecticides?
a. use biological control agents such as predators, parasitioids, pathogens
and competitors.
b. use biological materials to maintain soil fertility
c. practice multiple cropping
4. Some farming practices require large amounts of chemical fertilizers. These
fertilizers may run-off to bodies of water causing death of organisms living
on them. What is one way to avoid this that has additional benefits to the
environment?
a. limit the use of fertilizers, plants will still live anyways
b. switch to natural fertilizers made from compost and animal manure
c. plant crops that do not require lots of fertilizers

5. As a student, how would you help prevent the continuous damage of our
environment?
a. follow proper waste management and waste segregation at home and in
school.
b. join environmental conservation rallies
c. apply desirable practices in farming
Objective 16: Applied a personal philosophy of teaching
that is learner- centered (assessment)
 In this assessment, learners built a strong emphasis
on problem-solving and critical thinking rather than
mere memorization. This type of learner- centered
approached used by the teacher is under the
progressivism philosophy of teaching.
7. EXTEND
Ask the students to express their thoughts and ideas regarding
environmental conservation through any of the following: poster, slogan, poem,
infographic, digital art. (To be passed on the next meeting)

ANNOTATIONS
Objective 14: Reviewed regularly personal teaching practice using existing
laws and regulations that apply to the teaching profession and the
responsibilities specified in the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers
These video lessons show the improvement of my teaching in 2 key areas as a
reflection and to continue upholding my duties and responsibilities stipulated in the
Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers.
1. Article IV section 2 states that teachers shall uphold the highest possible
standard of teaching and quality of education. These video lessons are proof of
my hard work and dedication to adapt in the continuing changes in the paradigm
of education especially now that the delivery of instructions in school is
hampered by the pandemic. This shows that I am responsive to the needs of
my learners in any circumstances. The videos also showed my improved
practice in teaching most importantly in my recorded teaching session wherein
I was able to use several strategies and techniques which I haven’t done in the
first one.
2. Article VIII section 9 states that teachers shall extend needed assistance to
solve student’s difficulties. These video lessons were developed to aid the
learners and help them accomplish the tasks at hand and to understand the
concepts. This shows that my teaching practice is constantly reviewed and
improved to ensure that my students are at the center. The first video lesson
showed that students will be able to learn even if there is no opportunity for
them to meet their teacher in person.
