Genesis Chapter 15:
The Word of God (also known as HaShem) came to Abram in a vision. He told HaShem that he had no
children to become his heir. HaShem asked him to count the stars and proceeded to say that they will
T
have a child. Abram believed him. HaShem wanted him to bring a 3 year old female cow, a 3 year old
goat, a 3 year old ram, a turtle dove, and finally a pigeon. HaShem told Abram that his child shall be a
stranger to the land he is in, but he must serve them. HaShem made a covenant with Abram saying all
1
he has been given.
Genesis Chapter 17:
HaShem appeared to Abram again when he was 99. HaShem said that Abram would be the “father of
many nations”. His name would no longer be Abram, but Abraham. His family will also grow by many.

HaShem told Abraham that he and his lineage would all would look to Him and He would be their God. The
males shall be circumcised as a token of the covenant. Anyone who does not partake will be shunned and
4
broken away because they have broken the covenant. His wife Sarai will now be called Sarah and she will
bear a child. She will bear a son, who is to be named Isaac. Ismael shall be fruitful and have 12 princes.

Exodus Chapter 1:
The sons of Israel; Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Benjamin, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, and
6
Asher. There were 70 souls that were from Jacob’s lineage. They decided to leave Egypt because the
people were too mighty and powerful over them. The pharaoh told the midwives that every son shall die
and every daughter live. The midwives saved some of the sons. HaShem eventually made houses for the
7
midwives. Then, the pharaoh told all the people of the new decree and not just the midwives.
Exodus Chapter 2:
8
The wife of a daughter of Levi bore a son. This mother hid her son for 3 months. When it was no longer
able to be kept hidden, it was placed by the river. The sister of the son was sent to watch over the
9
basket. The Pharaoh’s daughter arrived and asked the daughter to fetch a Hebrew mother to nurse. She
went to the boy’s mother. The mother was paid in wages for nursing the child. When he was old enough,
he was seen to the Pharaoh’s daughter to become her child (Moses). A few years later, Moses was being
10
threatening. The Pharaoh wanted Moses killed, so he fled. The king of Egypt had died, letting the children
of Israel free.
