Lex: Starting this week on London grass, Wimbledon 2022 lived up to
expectations. Elena Rybakina became the first woman ranked outside
the top 20 to win the tournament since 2007. Rybakina is currently
ranked 23rd, and sadly for her, that ranking will not change due to WTA
stripping Wimbledon of ranking points over the ban on Russian players.
In the men’s, Novak Djokovic collected his 21st Grand Slam title over
Nick Kyrgios. After losing the first set, Djokovic was able to slow the
tempo of the game while Kyrgios continued to his usual routine of
slamming fans, refs, and even his own team this time.
As Djokovic sits only one grand slam behind Nadal, he won’t have
another chance until next year. He is currently unable to travel to
America as he is unvaccinated, and Australian immigration placed a
three-year ban on him earlier this year.
Alex, all these men are still behind Serena Williams’ 23 titles and
Margaret Court’s 24 titles. My question to you is, do you like the mental
element that Kyrgios tries to put on opponents, or have you had
enough?

Lead into upcoming events soccer baseball
Lex: The USWNT clinched a spot in the 2023 World Cup, joining South
Korea and co-hosts Australia and New Zealand. Coach Colin Bell and the
South Korean ladies have just returned from Canada in preparation for
the EAFF E-1 Football Championship kicking off Tuesday, July 19th in
Japan. The men’s national team has their first game a day later,
Wednesday the 20th.
Changing sports, Korea was drawn into group B of the World Baseball
classic. As the tournament moves to a 20-team format, Japan, Australia,
and China have been drawn together with an additional spot for a
qualifying winner. Group B matches will be played in the Tokyo Dome.
And finally, Wednesday will bring the event everyone has been waiting
for. Son Heungmin visited Incheon airport over the weekend,
welcoming his teammates to Korea. Harry Kane and the boys in tow will
play two matches, the first at Seoul World Cup stadium against the KLeague All-Star team, followed by a friendly against Sevilla in Suwon on
Saturday.

Radio can not do justice for the Korean Wheelchair
Basketball League when describing the athletic ability shown yesterday
in Suwon. Relateable to our palates for food, who doesn’t love the
fusion of Korean Galbi with Mexican tacos? For sports fans, why not a
fusion of hockey-style body checks, Kim Yuna-esqe endless spins, and
the temperament of a Buddhist to not punch the player who just
rammed you to the ground. The KWBL plays their games in segmented
heats, with all six teams playing on the same court in back-to-back
games. The first round just ended on July 10th, Jeju 삼다수 being
dominate over the first five games. Upcoming regular-season games
will be played in Suwon, Goyang, Daegu, Goyang, Chuncheon and Jeju.
Alex, I won’t fake the funk here and pretend like I am a huge fan of the
league. However, I started watching the league last year and what I do
like here is the variety of sport, the inclusion of all types of athletes,
and as a fan, the dissecting of this particular gameplay that differs from
traditional basketball.
