Project 8 Statistical Analysis Emily Lim Educational Measurement Dr. Judy Moody Summer 2021 The purpose of this study is to determine whether male or female hurricanes are deadlier. The data was gathered on hurricane deaths from 1950 to 2012. There were 92 hurricanes in the 62 years of this data set. There were 30 male named storms and 62 female named storms. There were 1900 deaths from hurricanes in the 62 years. In the female named hurricanes there were 1473 deaths. In the male named hurricanes there were 427 deaths. However, it should be noted that there were twice as many female named hurricanes as male named hurricanes. But given the ratio of male to female named hurricanes, you would expect the deaths to be twice as many. And yet there are three times as many. This is statistically significant.
