(Sagay City)
Hello everyone and welcome to Sagay City by the way, I’m May Frances Chavez and you can call me May,
and I will be your tour guide for today. On behalf of STI travel and tours I’d like to welcome you all to the
beautiful city of Sagay. Before we start let’s wave our hands to our professional and very handsome driver
for today manong Edison. Before anything else let’s begin our tour with a prayer. Amen.
Now, let’s do a headcount, starting with you, Sir, 12345, So you’re a group of 20 tourists. Now I’d like to
introduce you to the area and lay out some ground rules and safety precautions. First and foremost, I ask
that you buckle up and remain seated until we take our first step towards our destination. Second, eating
and drinking are allowed, but we must dispose of our trash. Third, please keep your mask on at all times
and remember to sanitize our hands, and if you need assistance, simply raise your white flag and we’ll
come in to assist you. Finally, remember to relax and enjoy your holiday; leave nothing but footprints.
First let me give you a brief history about Sagay City. So Sagay City was formerly known as Arguellas. It
was founded by Teniente Francisco Rodriguez and Basilio Cordova on 1860 in the mouth of the Bulanon
River. Later, by the order of the Spanish governor, the town was transferred to Pueblo de Magallanes
(now known as Old Sagay) to honor Fernando Magallanes. It was in 1906 that the name of the town was
changed into Sagay. It was taken from the semi-spherical shell called “sigay”, which can be found in the
area.
And we’re now here in Sagay City. I promise that you are going to enjoy your stay here and feel very safe.
On our first stop is the SUYAC ISLAND. See the oldest mangroves in Negros Occidental in the mangrove
forest of Suyac Island. You will be delighted as you will be welcomed by the people in the community who
are members of the Suyac Island. Nice bamboo footbridges are connecting several cottages spread at the
mangrove forests. The Suyac Island Mangrove Eco-park upholds its beliefs as a pro-community, proenvironment, and pro-family eco-tourist destination, providing economic opportunities to the province's
fishing communities and empowering them to be environmental and sustainable tourism advocates.
Next stop is the Panal Reef this is another interesting marine sanctuary in Sagay. Panal Reef is made up
of a lengthy stretch of white sandbar that showcases the reef’s beautiful water. The beach is still immersed
in water during low tide, although only to a shallow depth. The sand may not be powdered and white as
it is on a coralline island, but corral brittles are visible as you walk. Snorkeling is another activity that you
may do here because there are small marine creatures underwater. Being submerged in water can help
you gain a deeper understanding of what true beauty is. So now is your chance to take some pictures,
and I’ll only allow you 6 minutes to do so. So when it comes to festival did you know that the annual event
in the city, the Sinigayan Festival, is celebrated every 19th day of March. The festival is a thanksgiving in
honor of their patron, St. Joseph, showcasing the best of Sagay—the arts, culture, products, and its
people. So this is the end of our tour I hope that you enjoyed and learn something today, We also would
like to extend our thanks to our driver today manong Edison for bringing us here in Sagay City safe and
sound. Again, on behalf of STI travel and tours, relax and enjoy your stay. Once again, I’m May your tour
guide for today. And It’s been an honor to be among such accomplished individuals and to be able to
present my perspective before you all, thank you and God bless.
