●
The selection, “The Creation,” is a poem
in free verse. It means to say that no set
meter is used in the poem. Meter refers
to the equal number of syllables observed
in the lines of the poem.
In contrast, study this example of a metered
poem.
I went into the wood one day,
(8 syllables)
And there I walked and lost my way,
(8 syllables)
- From “Fairy Story” by Steve Smith
For metered poems, the
meter provides rhythm.
It makes a poem sound
pleasing to the ears. To
read a free verse, the
reader has to rely on
normal
pauses
and
natural
rhythmical
phrases.
In a free verse poem,
there were no rhyming
words used at the end of
the lines in the stanza.
Instead, the poet uses
artistic expressions to add
beauty and rhythm to the
verses.

when you read
the lines.

Writing a Text Reformulation
of the Selection
But before you start with your text reformulation,
remember first the structure of a narrative or a story.
01
First, there must be a good beginning statement that
will describe the setting, the character, and the initial
problem of the character that will lead to the
succeeding events in the story.
02
Second, there must be a solution or solutions that
will solve the problem or conflict.
03
Third, to add spice to the story, there can be
another conflict or a conflict that remains despite all
the solutions that have been applied.
04
Fourth, there must be a final solution that will end all
the problems.
05
Lastly, a story with a good beginning statement
deserves a proper closure with the use of a wellphrased ending statement. Put your readers in awe
by using a meaningful ending.
