1 English 03/03/22 Lord of the Flies Title Analysis Essay The Lord of the Flies is about a group of boys who survived a plane crash on a remote island during the 2nd World War. Two boys named Ralph and Hugh (Piggy) find each other and later find a conch in the sand near a lagoon on the island and bring together the rest of the boys who survived the crash. As time passed there were battles for power and the loss of the thing that dictates who has power. The first time the title of the book is mentioned is when a boy named Simon finds the head of the Pig that the rest of the boys killed and decapitated. As Simon finds the head of the pig he has a hallucination he finds that the meaning of the pig is the root of evil within the boys on the island, they lost their rationality and moral compass. It kind of shows how they are no longer hoping or working towards getting rescued, and now they are just doing what they want. The lord of the flies is also Jack since he's the one leading everyone to hunt to fulfill their animosity and fun. The littluns are pretty much mindlessly following Jack just like real life flies do. At first he was willing to hunt and procure food for everyone to survive with the idea of being rescued but since Jack has given up on the idea of being rescued his actions are turning more to the lets have fun while we can. 2 Since real life flies just follow where the scent of death or food is, it's pretty much exactly what the kids are doing by following Jack, the one who is producing food and a way to fulfill their desires. In a figurative sense they are all just sort of hovering around one thing and don't want to leave it because they can do whatever it is they want to with no punishment by adults.
