advertisement
Task #1:
- Watch the video about leaf structure and function from 0:44 m to 3:55 m
- Color code the structures within the leaf structure diagram below according to the text color on the
right side. One example has already been done for you.
Task #2:
- Complete the following table with the structure corresponding to the definition or function. One
example has been done for you.
Definition / function
Structure
Outermost layer of tightly packed translucent cells to minimize water loss via
transpiration.
epidermis
Tightly packed column shaped cells, which are the main site of photosynthesis.
They contain many chloroplasts.
select one
The waxy covering of the leaf that minimizes water loss via transpiration
select one
Has two guard cells that open and close for the diffusion of gases
select one
Loosely packed irregular cells containing a few chloroplasts. The air space in
between allows for gas exchange.
select one
Up and down flowing tubes that transport glucose and other products of
photosynthesis from the leaves to the rest of the plant.
select one
Upward flowing tubes that transport water from the roots to the leaves

Task #3:
- The following micrograph shows a cross section of the leaf of a plant. Use the following labels to label
the micrograph. Two examples have been already done for you.
- Cuticle
- Epidermis
- Stomata
- Palisade mesophyll
- Spongy mesophyll
- Air spaces
- Vascular bundle (vein)
- Xylem
- Phloem
- If you need some help you can check this labelled diagram for guidance.
