If you have any questions about anything at all related to EVMS Family Medicine or the 757, please reach out! -The EVMS Family Medicine Residents EVMS Family Medicine EVMS Family Medicine Mission Statement: “To graduate lifelong learners who are comfortable with the pursuit of the full scope of family medicine, while leading a team in a healthy atmosphere for themselves, their patients and staff.” EVMS Family Medicine Program Overview: •Full-scope family medicine program offering training at both a large academic center and an unopposed community hospital •Program Director: Dr. John Snellings •Associate Program Director: Dr. Gary Ohanian •16 residents per class •Located in the Hampton Roads region of southeastern Virginia •Training sites: Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Bon Secours Maryview Hospital, Childrens Hospital of the King’s Daughters, Hampton VA Medical Center, Portsmouth Family Medicine Clinic, Ghent Family Medicine EVMS Family Medicine Program Curriculum: *Exact yearly rotations/ requirements subject to change •As one of twenty-five programs across the nation in the FM-NICCE Pilot, we have uninterrupted training on both clinic blocks and offservice rotation blocks • Tracks for tailoring residency education include: academics, sports medicine, community medicine, geriatric and palliative care, FMOB/women’s health • Weekly didactics consisting of lecture-based education, hands-on skills training, point-of-care ultrasound training, SIM center simulations and boards preparation with boards-style questions • Administrative time built into clinic blocks for residents to seek additional training in their medical areas of interest and research interests EVMS Family Medicine Training Details: • Didactic workshop trainings take place at the EVMS SIM Center. The center has an immersive virtual environment, 26 clinical exam rooms, an observation suite, six group skills rooms for staging emergency or operating rooms and more. • In the outpatient offices each faculty member has a Butterfly Ultrasound for attending and resident use for use for both diagnostic and treatment ultrasound skills. • Outpatient offices are additionally equipped with exercise stress test treadmills, procedure clinic rooms, and a patient room designated for colposcopy and endometrial biopsy. • Residents are members of resident-led committees including: community service, recruitment, wellness and education. These encourage resident-driven program improvements, initiatives and research projects. They also function to help develop leadership skills over the course of training. EVMS Family Medicine Our Faculty: • Our diverse array of faculty come from a variety of backgrounds including outpatient work, military backgrounds and academic backgrounds • They have a variety of interests including: procedures, FM-OB, POCUS, geriatrics, military medicine, community medicine, underserved care, palliative, sports medicine, rural medicine • Each resident in the EVMS Family Medicine program is assigned a faculty member with interests similar to that of the resident to provide resident-specific mentorship • At the clinic, we are lucky to have a full-time behavioral health faculty member who is available for on-site counseling and to provide guidance to residents EVMS Family Medicine Our Residents See all of our resident bios here EVMS Family Medicine EVMS Family Medicine Where we live: In general, majority of residents live in Norfolk as opposed to Virginia Beach or the other surrounding areas because of the variety of housing options and the proximity to EVMS.
