Ampicillin
Treatment of the following infections: skin and skin
structure infections, soft-tissue infections, otitis media,
sinusitis, respiratory infections, genitourinary
infections, meningitis, septicemia, endocarditis
prophylaxis.
250-500 mg q6h – PO, IM, IV
Seizures (high doses); pseudomembranous colitis;
anaphylaxis; serum sickness; superinfection; diarrhea;
nausea; vomiting; rash; blood dyscrasias
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to penicillin
Patient Teaching:
Caution patient to notify healthcare provider if fever
and diarrhea occur, especially if stool contains blood,
pus, or mucus. Advise patient to report the signs of
superinfection and allergy. Instruct patient to take
medication around the clock and to finish the drug
completely as directed, even if feeling better.
