SOLID
LIQUID
GAS
COMPOSED OF PARTICLES THAT HAVE BEEN
ORGANIZED INTO DIFFERENT TYPES OF SOLIDS
IN THE FORM OF A LATTICE IN THE MIDST OF
THE DUST THEIR FIXED POSITIONS MAKE
THEM VIBRATE
LIQUIDS CONTAIN PARTICLES THAT ROLL
AROUND EACH OTHER AND SETTLE ON THE
BOTTOM OF THEIR CONTAINER. THE
PARTICLES ARE GENERALLY SLIGHTLY
FURTHER APART THAN IN A SOLID.
GASES CONTAIN PARTICLES THAT MOVE
AROUND VERY QUICKLY. THE PARTICLES
TRAVEL IN STRAIGHT LINES UNTIL THEY
BOUNCE OFF ANOTHER PARTICLE OR A
SURFACE
AMORPHOUS SOLID
PLASMA
A SOLID IN WHICH THE POSITIONS OF THE
ATOMS DO NOT RANGE IN ORDER.
PLASMA IS A STATE OF MATTER THAT IS
FREQUENTLY MISTAKEN FOR A SUBSET OF
GASES, HOWEVER THE TWO STATES ACT
EXTREMELY DIFFERENTLY. PLASMAS, LIKE
GASES, HAVE NO SET SHAPE OR VOLUME AND
ARE DENSER THAN SOLIDS OR LIQUIDS.
CRYSTALLINE SOLID
CRYSTALLINE SOLIDS, OFTEN KNOWN AS CRYSTALS, ARE
CONSIDERED "REAL SOLIDS," AND MINERALS ARE
CRYSTALLINE SOLIDS. ONE EXAMPLE OF THIS TYPE OF SOLID
IS COMMON TABLE SALT. THE ATOMS, IONS, OR MOLECULES
IN CRYSTALLINE MATERIALS ARE ARRANGED IN AN ORDERED
AND SYMMETRICAL PATTERN THAT IS REPEATED
THROUGHOUT THE CRYSTAL.
