on the one hundreds teaching techniques and the “four strands” framework of developing the
skills of reading and writing skills. The organisation of the book reflects the four strands of
meaning-focused input, meaning-focused output, language-focused learning and fluency
development. To simplify its content, the first six chapters discuss reading whereas the last four

Nilai Pengetahuan / Pengajaran
One of the most fascinating new knowledge is diagnosing problems related to reading. Reading,
undoubtedly is a complex skills, thus if a pupil performs badly on a proficiency test
(comprehension test or cloze test) it is useful to have a procedure which can be followed to
identify the reasons for pupil’s poor performance. To simplify the procedure, there are four general
principles that should be followed, first, diagnosing must be done on an individual basis, second, it
should begin with the smallest units (identification, vocabulary and later comprehension), third, the
pupils must be relaxed during the diagnosing and fourth, must not rely on a particular test.
Although the where the problem lies is obvious, teacher musts prepare test at a different level to
double check.
