The Importance of Preserving Wildlife Habitat
Slide – 1
Theodore Roosevelt once said, “The Wildlife and its habitat cannot speak, so we must and we will”.
Good Morning Madam, I’m Ravindi Kariyawasam and today I’m going to present The importance of
preserving Wildlife habitat.
Slide – 2
Let us see what is meant by Wildlife habitat.
Habitat is a combination of food, water, shelter, and space arranged to meet the needs of wildlife.
Even a small yard can be landscaped to attract birds, butterflies, beneficial insects, and small animals.
Trees, shrubs, and other plants provide shelter and food for wildlife.
Simply it is the kind of place where any animal, bird, fish or plant live in its natural state.

Since we now know what is wildlife habitat lets see why we need to preserve it.
Wildlife plays an important role in balancing the environment and provides stability to different natural
processes of nature. It can be found in all ecosystems, desert, rainforests, plains and other areas.
Wildlife is important for its beauty, economic, scientific and survival values and It helps to maintain the
ecological balance of nature and maintains the food chain. It provides useful materials and wild animal
products like ivory, leather, honey, tusk etc. We largely depend on wildlife for every elementary
requirement in our life like the clothes we wear and the medicines we consume.. and so much more.

As you can see here even though wildlife habitats are this much important still there are so many
threats they face.
Air, water, soil and noise pollution of the scale and harmfulness never seen before is the major factor.
Natural habitats have been destroyed or damaged by activities such as the random use of synthetic
materials, release of radiations and oil spills in the sea, generations of effluence and wastes of various
kinds and toxicity, and their unscientific disposal.
Vast human population growth also resulted into habitat loss. Simply stating man has taken their homes.
Tropical rainforests are cleared for wood / timber resources, development of petroleum resources, and
mineral resources and so much other things.
Slide – 5
So as you can see as human beings we have a huge responsibility to protect and preserve our precious
wildlife habitats. The question is how to do it? Well there are so many easy peasy things which we can
do and these are some of them.
Reforestation, which is the process of replanting trees in areas that have been affected by natural
disturbances and unnatural ones can lead to growth of natural habitats for wildlife.
Pollution prevention protects the wildlife by conserving and protecting natural habitats while
strengthening economic growth through more efficient production in industry and less need for
households, businesses and communities to handle waste.
Finally, Wildlife conservation refers to the practice of protecting wild species and their habitats in order
to maintain healthy wildlife species or populations and to restore, protect or enhance natural
ecosystems. By forming groups and teams we can do projects which will help in preserving wildlife
habitats.
As we have come to the end of our presentation I would like to add these final words for your memory.
“The wildlife habitat cannot speak itself, so we must and we will…”
Thank you for attention.
