Thesis: Compare and contrast the importance of the use of propaganda in the emergence in
two authoritarian states.
Castro:
- Anti-racism

- Used word of mouth to spread ideology amongst peasants
- Rebel radio
- Lived amongst the peasants, therefore constant communication to spread ideologies

With reference to Castro's rise to power in Cuba and Hitler's rise to power in Germany, this
essay will assess the importance of the use of force when it came to the rise of these
authoritarian states. By looking at how Hitler and Castro both used force in attempts to
overthrow the government at that time
Firstly, the similarities between the failure of the use of force that Hitler and Castro
experienced, will be analysed. Secondly, the way in which Castro and Hitler used force to
maintain their position of power, during the emergence of their states, will be compared. The
other side will be considered, when it comes to means behind the use of power and the type of
opposition the authoritarian leaders faced. Throughout this essay it will be argued that the use
of force was both more significant and necessary in Castro's rise to power than it was in
Hitler’s rise to power, due to the political structure in the country at the time.
