MOTIVATION TIPS Many people struggle with motivation when it comes to nutrition and fitness because they consider it a difficult task and sometimes, they just now down to pressure from external forces. The first thing to note when it comes to motivation is to be flexible because motivation is not a permanent state of mind. It dips and lifts. The people we look at and we compare ourselves to and think that they are always motivated probably aren’t. They probably have heavily instilled habits so it's not part of their routine. It feels worse for them if they don’t do that specific activity and so they do it as a habit and not motivation. Succinctly, motivation should come from within and not without, and it should not be done for comparison. If there is anything you want to instil in your life because you think it’s healthy and useful, work towards achieving it and develop a habit. To incorporate activities in your life and make them a habit, they are probably interesting things, give you a rush, and a happy feeling. Some of the things you were encouraged to do by those taking care of you while you were young boosted your confidence. You always received praises for doing them right and this created reasons to give you that kind of response that kept you going. At times, motivation comes from external influences but it should first of all come from within. If you are finding it difficult to instil a habit in your life, you could stack it with another habit that you are doing and that is quite easy. For example, if you are struggling to take a supplement, you can put it on the coffee machine because the coffee machine is the first place you go in the morning. This way, you will see it, remember it, and take it until it becomes a habit. With time, you will find it weird to go a day without taking the supplement. A better idea is to stack it in a fun way. For instance, if you have to do house chores, you can download something interesting to listen to and do the chores at the same time you listen to the music or podcast. From time to time, you can pose and dance around to make the task even more fun. This gives you the boost and reason to get going. Other than making something a habit, you can get motivation by practicing selfcompassion. Be kind to yourself. Do not think too negatively about yourself. Self-compassion does not have to be in the now, it also involves thinking about the future and what will make you happy in future. That helps the decision you make a wise decision about the present and future. Finally, remind yourself why you are encouraging yourself to do what you do. Try to get inspiration based on the answers. Make sure it comes to a place of kindness because it makes you feel good. It should be a goal set by yourself and not the media or society.
