Counselor’s Corner October The character habit for the month of October is “Responsibility”– at home, at school and in the community. Students will be learning that responsibility means understanding your job and then doing it! Parents, please be prepared to listen as your child shares the lessons. As a parent, you need to discuss with your child some of your responsibilities around your home and your responsibilities to care for your family and friends. This will help your child understand the importance of responsibility, for everyone. KEYS TO RESPONSIBILITY • Responsibility is accepting the results of your own actions. • You are only responsible for yourself. • Decide that your decisions will only be positive ones. • The responsible person does his/her best on any task (even homework!) • Be responsible in school by following the school rules. • If there is a bully in the crowd, be responsible by using your words to say “Stop!”, walking away or letting an adult know. • Show your responsible character by doing your chores without being reminded. • Be responsible by staying away from drugs, alcohol and cigarettes. • Be responsible by planning ahead.
