Etymology
• Hyperemesis gravidarum is from the Greek hyper-, meaning
excessive, and emesis, meaning vomiting, and the Latin
gravidarum, the feminine genitive plural form of an adjective,
here used as a noun, meaning "pregnant [woman]".
• Therefore, hyperemesis gravidarum means "excessive vomiting
of pregnant women".
