For this assignment, I picked up the story “A Mother”, by James Joyce. I chose it because it taught me the perspective of others about an individual. The story is about a woman Kearney, and her daughter Kathleen. Kearney did not marry a man of her age. Due to other people speaking unwell of her, she married a man of no her age to vex others (Joyce, n.d., para. 3). She had two girls from him. The elder one, named Kathleen, started to study music and languages. Her mother considered creating a means of income for her daughter. So that, she agreed with one of the assistant secretaries of the Musical Society. The public judged Kathleen wrongly as she is artistic value. However, her mother was enraged due to the unfair treatment of Kathleen. Kearney requested the manager who agreed with her to obey the solemn promise. But, he rejected and relinquished his responsibility and broke his term. Finally, she terminated the agreement and refrained from their theatre. I liked the story because it enabled me to understand how to make the right decision. References Joyce, J. (n.d.). A mother.
