improving the holistic development of our learners through physical activities and engagement in
different movements and skills.
Why teach Physical Education?
Answer: Physical education is defined as "education via movement." It seeks to improve students'
physical health, understanding of movement, and capacity to apply these to a variety of activities
connected with the development of an active and healthy lifestyle. It also boosts students' selfesteem and general abilities, particularly those related to teamwork, communication, creativity,
critical thinking, and aesthetic appreciation. These, together with the development of healthy
values and attitudes in PE, offer a solid basis for students' lifetime and life-wide learning.

Answer:
Physical education has undergone many vicissitudes and several changes of direction in the
Philippine schools. Time was when physical education was considered as education of the physical
the old concept.
What do you mean by education of the physical the old concept?
Answer: Based on the History, physical education is one of the most crucial and important subjects
being taught not only in school, but especially in the physical training of the army during war.
Where being physically healthy can affect the overall performance of the individual that is why
education and the physical health of the individual is very important. Being physically healthy is very
important factors in the holistic development of the individual.
The newer and modern concept of physical education is that it is education through physical
activities. In modern physical education parlance it is education through ‘movement”. It provides
sensory data. It broadens the perceptive horizon. It stimulates function and structure of all bodily
organs. It is the means by which an individual learns about himself in relation to his ambient
environment. What education through movement more particularly entails in addition is the taking
of that, culture-based family of activities and processes – games, dance, gymnastics, athletic sports and
outdoor pursuits – as means through which the teacher can help effect desirable outcomes, regardless
of whether or not those activities have intrinsic worth of their own.
Physical education performs three functions:
1. Biologic function refers to the enhancement of the individual’s growth and development
through body movement.
2. Integrative function refers to personality integration achieved through participation in
properly selected physical education activities.
3. Social function consists of transmitting values and standards that are consistent with the
needs and ideals of society.
Physical Education Defined
Physical education is an integral part of the educational program designed to promote the optimum
development of the individual physically, socially, emotionally, mentally and spiritually through the
total body movement in the performance of properly selected physical activities.

FITNESS – A major goal of Physical Education
Different people differ in their concept of fitness. In the field of physical education, the concept of
fitness has implications for physical, social, emotional and mental well –being. Considering these four
aspects, it can be said that fitness is the ability to live a healthy, satisfying and useful life.
Objectives of Physical Education
The following objectives of physical education are viewed and stated in terms of their contributions
to the outcomes of education and which justify the existence of physical education in the curriculum.
Be able to describe and give characteristics on the following objectives of physical education:
Physical Development encompasses both physical growth and the capacity to use muscles and body
components to perform certain tasks. Gross (big muscle movements) and fine (small movements)
motor abilities both contribute to physical development, and children frequently master a set of skills
by a certain age. Give chances for young learners to be active and interactive, as well as to improve
their coordination, control, and mobility. Learners must also be encouraged to appreciate the value of
physical exercise and to make good eating choices.
Social Development, Physical education helps to our assist young learners to develop critical abilities
such as dispute resolution, peer collaboration, and social skills such as leadership and fine motor
control. Exercise has a good side effect of developing social skills, which is required for growth.
Communication, the capacity to communicate effectively and responsibly is essential for social
success. With practice, simple activities like remembering someone's name and social signs like
providing praises and encouraging good conduct after losing a game may be mastered. Belonging to a
group: joining a group is a learnt skill. Negotiation is required for a youngster to feel comfortable
entering, and other members of the group must be welcoming to the new member. In this process,
children learn to give and take while also having opportunities to lead.
Emotional Development, is the capacity to perceive, express, and control feelings at various periods of
life, as well as to empathize with the feelings of others. Emotion is a crucial component of motivation,
behavior, and commitment in PE, and it contributes to lifetime engagement in physical exercise.
Pleasant sentiments about a given work make it worthwhile to devote one's attention to it, to engage
in it, and to desire to do it again.
Mental Development, another term for mental development is cognitive development. It is essentially
the creation of mental activities such as cognitive processes, memory, problem solving, and decision
making, as well as overall intelligence. Cognitive development is the name given to the area of
research in neuroscience and psychology that focuses at the development of a child's brain and the
features inside it. Physical education encompasses more than just physical activity. It stimulates on
several levels, making it an essential element of the educational system for all students.

The Concept of Physical Fitness
Physical fitness is the primary specific objective in teaching physical education. Therefore, it is in
order that the physical education teacher should have the correct concept of physical fitness.
Physical fitness is the ability to perform one’s daily tasks efficiently without undue fatigue but
with extra “reserve” in case of emergency.
The specific components of physical fitness are:
Be able to define and give specific examples that best illustrates the components of physical fitness:
Who should teach Physical Education?
Physical education is a professional field, which demands the necessary qualities and competence of a
strong leader. Merely wanting to be a physical education teacher is not a index of one’s fitness for the
profession. But who is the good leader? He is a leader who can make people move and guide them in
carrying out effectively the desired goal or objectives.
Some of the leadership qualities a physical education teacher should possess are as follows.
Be able to discuss briefly.
1. Pleasing and Stimulating Type of Personality
To be effective, each prospective Physical Education teacher must possess specific
characteristics. PE instructors must be excellent in the classroom, but they must also be able to
collaborate with parents and other educators. Good physical education instructors must have a
variety of talents in addition to knowledge of sports, such as interpersonal skills, creativity, and
others. For any prospective educator, being a physical education teacher is a difficult endeavor.
Being a role model, having professional skills, and providing an enjoyable atmosphere are all
important qualities to have as a successful PE instructor. Keeping your time structured and
speaking properly with children, parents, and other educators makes your job easier and more
rewarding. It may seem apparent to have physical skills, but a healthy physique is essential for a
PE instructor. Because PE teachers encourage children to make healthy choices, these adults
must follow suit. PE teachers do not need to be Olympic athletes, but they must have a positive

attitude toward fitness and education in order to demonstrate children that maintaining a healthy
lifestyle can be pleasurable.
2. Versatility
Patience and adaptability are essential qualities for a successful teaching profession. Because
not all kids learn in the same way or at the same rate, it is critical to be patient and use a variety
of tactics. It is also critical to adjust and change classes to accommodate pupils of varying levels
and skills. Because some schools do not have a designated PE facility, being able to alter your
lesson plans to weather or available resources keeps your lesson plans on track. Adaptability and
the ability to develop new activities make your lessons interesting and pleasant for everyone.
Television, music, and other classes might provide inspiration for your lessons. You may draw
inspiration from your surroundings to create interesting and enjoyable exercises for pupils of
various physical levels. Having a range of activities and outcomes keeps students interested and
involved in your lessons. Teachers who have this trait can take good ideas from other people and
make them great. They can come up with solutions to potential problems on their own and make
general classroom decisions without consultation
3. Professional Aptitude
`Working with children, parents, and other instructors necessitates a variety of interpersonal
abilities. Being a teacher entails serving as a leader and role model for your students. A physical
education teacher exemplifies principles like leadership, collaboration, and sportsmanship.
Respecting those around you increases their likelihood of respecting you and your program. As a
teacher, you must ensure that your students are learning. To be an educator, you must have a
strong desire to assist students gain skills that they can apply outside of the classroom. Working
with children may be tiring, but keeping that enthusiasm alive allows you to make your sessions
both informative and enjoyable. You must also keep your pupils safe and secure during class, as
they will be moving about and in huge locations with various equipment. Teachers with
determination figure out a way to get their job done. They do not make excuses. They find ways
to reach even the most difficult students through trial and error without giving up. Teachers who
have this trait can take good ideas from other people and make them great. They can come up
with solutions to potential problems on their own and make general classroom decisions without
consultation
4. Good Moral Character
As a PE instructor, you may encounter learners of varying ages, physical abilities, and
learning styles. Furthermore, PE instructors are frequently required to work in different locations
or even numerous schools. Being organized maintains all of these requirements in one place and
makes them easier to handle. Keeping the courses themselves orderly keeps them moving,
reduces downtime, and reduces the likelihood of conflict and behavioral concerns. Any PE
lesson requires students, a physical place, and equipment, so keeping all of these items organized
ensures that the class runs smoothly and that learning possibilities are maximized. Another key
talent is the ability to communicate effectively. Clear communication with your learners’ aids in
their learning and keeps them safe. Respectful communication with parents and other
professionals demonstrates how you handle your pupils in your program. Effective
communication fosters a feeling of community in which kids are self-assured in their talents.
Students are more inclined to accept physical exercise as a source of enjoyment if they have
more confidence and encouragement.

5. Value Judgments and Aesthetic Sense
"Creativity" is another vital quality of a competent PE instructor. This is the ability to solve an
issue through original thought. We have pupils that can think critically and solve problems
because they have the attribute. Teachers with this attribute are able to use their creativity to
create a welcoming classroom environment, interesting teachings, and techniques to
individualize learning for each student.
