Here is my GRASP task. Please let me know if I need modifications.
Statment of inquiry:
Word choice and family structures connect communities and help establish family roles
and community role models.
Goal: Your task is to describe your family members and explain family relationships about who will be
gathering during an important or family gathering.
Role: You are the member of host family and the only person who speaks the language of a student
visiting from another country during a family gathering.
Audience: A exchange student who is visiting your country for the first time.
Situation: You are a hosting family for an exchange student. You also have a very large extended family
that frequently gathers for occasions, sometimes special, sometimes just because they like to gather.
Product: You will prepare a booklet of introduction about your immediate and extended family (be they
“found” family or biological family) for the visiting student to help them understand who is who in your
family, what they are like, what they like and/or dislike and what role they play in your family structure
(immediate or extended). In your product you should address whom in your family you are close to and
why..
Time frame: Student will be assessed based on the following criteria the preparation for which will be
approximately 1 week.
Success will be based the following Emergent level criteria (D - writing)
i. Student will use a wide range of vocabulary
ii. Student will use a wide range of grammatical structures generally accurately
iii. Student will organize information effectively and coherently in an appropriate format using a wide
range of simple and some complex cohesive devices
iv. Student will communicate all or almost all the required information with a clear sense of audience and
purpose to suit the context.
