In paragraph 1 of the article by Habit, what do you think are the situations or events mentioned that indicate globalization (specially in the late 19th and early 20th century)? Based on your understanding\knowledge, how will you describe each of these situations? According to the article by Habito, since the two world wars ended the first wave, there is a need to establish a coordinated global financial system in order to recover from economic stagnation caused by the two world wars. 2. What ushered the globalization wave in the 1990’s? What inevitable realities were identified? The establishment of the World Trade Organization, aided by a further technological advancement in information and communication technology, opened the path for the third wave of globalization in the 1990’s. The advancement of communication and information technology made it easy for each countries to communicate and exchange information, products and services. However, issues such as human trafficking, smuggling, and other crossborder crimes such as terrorism, illegal drug trade, and money laundering are the inevitable realities that are identified that seemed to be strenuous and difficult to address. 3. What are the effects of globalization in Filipino lives? Globalization has become a significant part of our nation’s improvement and progress. It helped our country to lessen the problems of unemployment and granted us the opportunity to provide service abroad. It has also opened businesses and companies that provides us good services. Furthermore, it has widened the choice of our basic commodities and provides us a cheaper and high-quality product to purchase that many of us enjoy. 4. What marked the new globalization according to the Philippine Institute of Development Studies (PIDS)? Activity 1-5 Yes, globalization should discuss social and cultural chances for building relationships and avoiding conflict in their actions and practices. Because if we merely talk about our cultural and social experiences, we will not build a mindset; we will have a very limited grasp of cultural and social conduct, and we will continue to live in a primitive manner. For me, talking and sharing our and their social and cultural experiences is important in order to broaden our understanding of their practices and way of life, as well as to develop our mentality, because if we only focus on our own way of life, we may believe that ours is the only way to live or that we can easily judge their practices.
