Pop ballads are slow tempo or mid-tempo emotional songs with an aesthetic blend of melody and harmony. Although this style of music is associated with romance, intimate relationships, and breakups, a number of modern ballads showcase varied themes about loneliness, war, death, religion, drug abuse, and religion. Most ballads are based on a fairly predictable song form with lyrics written from either the first or third person, often sung directly to the person who evoked the sentiment of the song or telling a personal story with some kind of emotional punch.
