Ramirez Jr. PROFESSOR: A/Prof. Jeffry Ocay, PhD Research Gap/Problem Working Title Factors Affecting the Reading Performance of Grades 4-6 Non-Readers in English in the District of Sta. Rita II Research Gap/Problem Based on records through the conduct of group screening test using the Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (PhilIRI), the researcher found out that there are 23 non-readers in English in the District of Sta. Rita II. 7 of them are from fourth grade, 9 are from fifth grade and 7 are from sixth grade. In particular, this proposed research will look into the difficulties that the learners have encountered in reading atlevel text. Research Goal This proposed research aims to determine the factors why the Grades 4-6 non-readers in English in the District of Sta. Rita II failed to meet the standards in reading leveled text or graded passage. Thesis Statement The researcher claims that if we will be able to determine the reasons or factors why these learners failed to meet the standards in reading leveled text or graded passage we can offer set of activities designed to address student-specific reading difficulties and we can design and provide appropriate reading instruction to cater students’ current reading levels and abilities. Methodology Qualitative Research Method (particularly case study)
