1) INTRODUCTION.
At times when heavy rains occur, you might have seen a flash of light in the sky and of
course you are always advised to stay safe at homes. Along with the flash of light, you
can also hear a large thunder sound. This flash of light is nothing but the discharge of
electricity or lightening as we call it. So let us see what actually causes lightning, its
effects and how we can prevent our electrical system from getting damaged. We will
see how to overcome lightning strikes in the electrical network and what tools can be
used in the network instead of being exposed to great damage in the network.
2) The lightning arrester
The lightning arrester is a metal stick connected to the ground with two pointed ends,
the first to be fixed to the ground and the other to collect and attract charges. resulting
in a spark between them earth and sky see in fig1.

The southern region of the Kingdom, for example, is the region of Jazan, where there
is a lot of continuous rain throughout the year, which is accompanied by lightning,
which affects the electrical network in the region from interruption, and for this project,
some appropriate solutions to these problems are being proposed. The southern region
is the region most exposed to lightning in fig 2 We will see the areas most vulnerable
to lightning in KSA.
