Questions – To the best of your ability, answer the question or explain the statement in complete sentences. 1. Analyze what natural resources were most important for industrialization. Things like coal, iron, water(steam), and oil were important for American industrialization. 2. Identify how electricity changed American way of life. Electricity helped further establish industrialization. With electricity, more machines were able to be powered hence leading to a greater economy. As more machines were being invented, more people moved to the cities and worked in factories. Social class became further established and people became bounded by things like the clock. 3. Analyze how the growth of the steel industry influenced the development of other industries. Growth in the steel industry meant that more machines could be built. This lead to many more inventions using steel and of course more factories. 4. Explain how inventions and developments in the late 19th century changed the way people worked. Prior to the industrial revolution, most people relied on working on a farm as their way of living. The industrial revolution caused many people to move to the cities and work in factories. Work was no longer unique, but mass produced. Inventions like the clock meant that people would no longer rely on the sun as checkpoints throughout the day but a standardized clock. It truly marked the start of the great rat race.
