The video, “The Secret to Change Negative Self-Talk by Renewing your Mindset,” by Bruce Pulver is very insightful. Firstly, I am in total agreement that our words matter. This is because our choice of words has a lot of power as it influences how we view ourselves and situations. In other words, as Pulver rightly mentioned, “the words we use to speak with ourselves and to others can impact everything.” If I tell myself that I will not be successful, then ultimately, I will fail. What I say, I become. Therefore, I also agree with the perspective shared that “our words direct our thoughts, our beliefs, our intentions, our actions, and ultimately, our outcomes.” I agree with this because they are interrelated, and I realize that when I change my thoughts about something, I feel different towards it, and my actions also change which leads to positive outcomes. Whether the glass is half empty or half full is based on our point of view. Consequently, the next point that I agree with is that “if we pay attention to the words we use, we can more effectively drive our outcomes.” I agree with this because when I change my “can’ts” into “cans,” this positive self-talk renews my mindset and I always achieve positive outcomes. In addition, I agree that “carefully selected words can save or change our lives, mend broken relationships, boost confidence, and promote success.” This is because our words are powerful. Proverbs 51: 1 tells us that “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” Words cut deeper than a sword, so we have to be careful what we say to ourselves and others. Finally, I agree that we should surround ourselves with inspiration. If we surround ourselves with negativity, then it will be more difficult for us to think positively. We have to be mindful of who is in our circle, what we watch, what we read, and what we listen to. I do not disagree with any of the statements mentioned in the video. I was able to relate and reflect on how the speaker’s statements are evident in my life, and I concur with everything. There are numerous points highlighted which I will apply to renew my mindset and become a better communicator.
