TO REVIEW: Scientism in its Form.
The breakthrough of science essentially helps humanity to reach the optimal possibilities
of the world. The unknown becomes known. The unthinkable becomes a belief. The
impossibilities of existence existed. The stretch of science derives on how flexible it is to save,
protect, and help and society as a whole. Science is a saviour to remake our world. Along with
these overwhelming discoveries, they can also be a danger to people.
Scientism sees science as the definite and only justifiable access to truth. According to
Lewis, the idea that a purposeful process has been made by one’s mind sometimes produces
things and moral beliefs that are against the need for survival. These mindless methods and ways
just show how people can transition to be gullible in the name of science—harming humanity for
believing these outlandish and fraudulent scientific ideas. That’s why he is against this idea.
He brought to a conclusion that science per se has a constructive connection with magic.
He regards that science is somehow a subset of religion. Science had a massive impact to the
humanity even today as more people deemed science as a way to look their lives meaningful.
They take science as a book of principles that they embody for their lives. There’s also “Science
as Credulity” which imposes that those scientists can be gullible enough to conduct mindless and
ruthless experiments that can eventually and probably harm humanity. He also pointed science
can be a means of power as they use science to possess power and prestige.
People from the modern world undeniably rely much towards the ideas of science. They
are highly dependent on these methods and believe that the power of science is of its greatest
virtue. But in fact, they are merely personal motives. According to Lewis, most scientists from the
modern world are devoted towards power over the world. Modern science can be far more
powerful and has the potential to manipulate the world.
Science alone can’t be sufficient. And people relying too much from the ideas of science
can be too risky to imagine. What society can do is to be intelligent enough to assess if certain
scientific ideas have basis. Scientists could be in a great shape which he already prepared himself
and has the strength to oppose and provide evidence whatever questions and assessment people
can do to him. Ensure that enough information is obtained and complex ideas and scientific
uncertainty are being explained. In which ways, we cannot be dictated with science only.
