1. What is scientism? Scientism is the popularized belief that everything can be reduced to its scientific definition. To scientism, everything can be learned by science to be developed into new technologies that shapes the modern human life. 2. Was CS Lewis against Science? No. CS Lewis actually agreed to Science and the facts and discoveries it has given us but he made warnings about scientism which is the blind belief that science can be the answer to everything even if it means to use inhumane means to develop human life and technologies. 3. The video claims that science and technology may be gaining increasing control over our lives, potentially to the detriment of society. Do yo agree? Does this match your own observations and experiences? Yes. It doesn’t matter if we achieve the best version of our world if we are not in it to live. So far, we are facing global challenges that has posed threats to human existence for decades now such as the hasty global warming and climate change in line with the vast and fast development of machineries harnessing the life and resources out of our planet. Moreover, our technologies are gaining control over us and our lives. No matter how much manufacturers and developers deny, I believe that artificial intelligence and our daily devices are delimiting our physical and mental capacities, as well as our time which leads to the development of more diseases and higher mortality all over the world. 4. Why is the title of the film "The Magician's Twin?” CS Lewis believed that magic is something that does amazing things that we lack knowledge to understand, but he also believed that magic has an equally powerful twin, which is science that has the capacity to bring out truth through the scientific method in things and phenomena. Hence, CS Lewis was describing Science by naming it as the Magician’s twin who reveals the secrets of the nature around us and how we can use these understandings in favor of human life. 5. What must complement S&T to ensure its proper use and promote sustainable development Ethics, morality, and law. Ethics will equip scientists the right virtues and morality to accomplish their work with humanity in mind. If scientists understand the value of harmony in nature over the comfort of mankind, we might be able to reshape our technologies from parasitical design that depletes the earth into design of commensalism that benefits both the environment and us, humans in a balanced manner. And lastly, law must also come hand in hand in balancing S&T, as morality is just an innate feature that we can incorporate in humans; scientists will always have the freedom over their designs without law, hence, we need a reinforcing body to deter unsustainable designs that abuses freedom to create such technologies.
