chemical called curcumin, which remains yellow in an
acidic or neutral solution, but turns red in a base.
 Turmeric contains a yellow pigment called curcumin that is
yellow at pH 7.4 and orange to red at pH 8.6
 Turmeric is yellow in acid and neutral substances,
but turns bright red with bases
APPARATUS REQUIRED
 PLAIN WHITE PAPER
 GLASS
 WATER
 TURMERIC
 DETERGENT
 VINEGAR
EXPERIMENT SETUP
 First take turmeric and mix in glass and take plane
paper
 Now we will take of tissue paper and dip in turmeric
water
 Now we will take two glass of detergent and vinegar
PROCEDURE

Turmeric is used as natural indicator.
 Turmeric is acidic in natural and it is yellow in
color.
 When we draw on turmeric color paper with
detergent (basic solution)The yellow color
changes to red color due to the
neutralization reaction.
OBSERVATION

turmeric is used as a natural indicator.
2. Turmeric is acidic in nature and it is
yellow in color.
3. When we draw on turmeric color paper
with vinegar (acidic solution) red color
changes to yellow color
CONCLUSION
 Turmeric is used as a natural indicator.
It is added to the solution to determine
its acidity and basicity. ... When
turmeric paste is added to the basic
solution the yellow color changes to
red color due to the neutralization
reaction
