Name: Cybelle R. Bugas Course, Yr. & Section: BSMT II –A Instructor: Sherryl Q. Presillas Date: June 21, 2021 NSTP 1 ACTIVITY 1 1. What is NSTP And NSTP Law? The NSTP stands for National Service Training Program (NSTP). The R.A. 9163 otherwise known as the National Service Training Program (NSTP) Act of 2001 was enacted in response to public clamor for reforms in the Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Program. This act affirms that the prime duty of the government shall be to serve and protect its citizens. The primary objective of the NSTP law (R.A. 9163) is to promote the role of the youth in nation-building. It aims to encourage the youth to become civic and/or military leaders and volunteers whom could be called upon by the nation in case their services are needed. 2. Enumerate and define the 3 components of NSTP? The NSTP has three components: the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC), the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), and the Literacy Training Service (LTS). The ROTC is a program that highlights citizenship training and instils patriotism, moral virtues, respect for the rights of civilians and adherence to the constitution. The ROTC continuously implements its mission pursuant to RA 9163 with ROTC as one of the component activities in tertiary level education. The CWTS is designed to develop students to become volunteers in uplifting the people’s standard of living in communities classified as DEPRESSED, DISADVANTAGED AND UNDER PRIVILIGED or DDU. It has conducted several activities in line with health, education, public safety, recreation and morale of citizenry and the protection of the environment and promotion of entrepreneurship. Lastly, the LTS is deliberated to develop students to become volunteers for the general welfare of the marginalized, towards activities that have social impact in Literacy and Numeracy Education. 3. What is Community service? As per my own perspective, community service is a voluntary work service intended to help people in a particular area. In addition, community service or volunteerism also enables us - the students to acquire life skills and knowledge, as well as provide a service to those who need it most. 4. As a youth what is your role to help your community? Being a steward in this certain community of mine, my role is to support and get involved with the movements implemented in my community such as helping my citizens in all aspects with all my might whenever they are in need or they are in a difficult situation. 5. As a student make a plan / or make activities that help to improve your community? As a student, these are my plans to help improve my community: 1. Volunteer - Volunteering energy and skills to a local organization. Whether a hospital, food bank, youth group, senior’s home, or animal shelter there are tonnes of local organizations that would benefit from my time. 2. Donate Blood – For I believe that with one donation I can save many lives. 3. Become a Mentor - Become a mentor to someone who would benefit from my skills, knowledge, and experience. 4. Organize a Charitable Event – I will find a cause where I am passionate about and organize on its behalf. I will raise money for a senior’s program, or collect food donations for a community pantry. 5. Shop Local - Shopping local means investing in my own community. Spending money locally supports the local economy and my neighbours — by keeping money in my neighbourhood, where it can be reinvested again through other shops and services. It’s a cycle that keeps on giving. 6. Attend Community Meetings – For I believe that community meetings are a great place to meet people from my neighbourhood while developing a deeper familiarity with that community. And it’s a great way to build feelings of belonging and ownership of the place I call home. 7. Organize a Clean Up - All I need to hold a successful clean-up is a big box of garbage bags, a bigger box of recycling bags, a substantial supply of rubber gloves, a group of friends or volunteers, and a location that needs some love. And these days most public parks, beaches, and neighbourhood streets are in need of a little TLC, and sometimes folks just need a little inspiration to encourage them to help out. 8. Join a Community Garden - Not only do community gardens beautify the community, but rather it often provide produce and other goods to local neighbourhoods — often underserved areas.
