absorb water? What will not?
Based On the pictures, Which material absorb water? Which did
not? Fill up the table below.

Activity 1: A Simple Science Experiment
Investigate if
the following materials absorb water or not.
• You Need: a bowl of water, a dropper

Remember
The ability of materials to absorb water depends
on the chemical nature of the material. The lower
the density of the material is the greater it absorbs
water because it has spaces filled with air which
absorbs water very easily and all the spaces quickly
fill up.
• APPLICATION
Read the situation below and answer the questions that
follow.
Pa
Patty was carrying a pail of water but suddenly
she slips on the floor and spills the water. Which
of the following materials should she use in
cleaning the spilled water?
A. Cloth
B. Rug made of rubber

There are different materials in our
environment that can be classified
according to their properties.They
can be classified based on their
ability to absorb water.Some
materials can absorb water more
than others.
EVALUATION:
Describe the following materials
based on the ability to absorb water.
Name of Materials
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MATERIALS
BEFORE ADDING
WATER
1.Rug made of cloth
2.Cotton balls
3.sponge
4.Rubber balls
5. Tissue paper
AFTER ADDING
WATER
PUT A CHECK IF
THE MATERILAS
ABSORBS WATER
AND x if it does
not
ASSIGNMENT
