Places a plastic covering over the material, similar to a plastic envelope, to protect it from dust & dirt. Approvals, Training or Qualifications required: 1. Training in this SWP. 2. Understand & apply verbal instructions. 3. Observe & apply safe systems of work. 4. Undertake OHS induction. Supervision Required Nil provided the person has been trained in this SWP. Jan. 2013 Warnings & Restrictions Personal Protective Equipment Potential Hazards Possible Consequences Hazard Controls 1. Faulty or frayed electrical cords & outlet. Electric shock or electrocution. 1. Visual inspection prior to use of machine. 2. Tag out procedure for faulty leads or outlets. 3. Regular testing & tagging regime. 2.1 Exposure to hot surfaces. Burn injuries Hitting & striking injuries from the sealing bar. Nip points from the belt & chain conveyors. 1. Hazard awareness: training in this SWP. 2. Keep hands & fingers clear of hot surfaces. 3. Know the location of the emergency stop button. 4. Never attempt to clear a jam whilst the machine is on. 5. Machine must cool down before rectifying a jam. 6. Sealing bar to remain up when not in use. 3. Manual handling & ergonomics Sprain & strain injuries 1. Operator to stand on the anti-fatigue mat. 2. Operator to apply correct MH techniques as per their induction training when performing MH tasks. Environment Contain & clean spills immediately. Recycle paper & plastic off cuts by placing into the appropriate bin. Emergency Procedures Medical emergency: minor injury seek first aid. Serious injury seek first aid & call security x9999. Fire: if you are trained & it is safe to do so, you could attempt to contain or extinguisher a fire by using the CO2 fire extinguisher adjacent to the shrink-wrapper. Maintenance As per the maintenance instructions in the manual. Authorised people only to conduct maintenance work on this machine. Ensure the machine is isolated whilst conducting maintenance activities. 2.2 Exposure to moving parts. Relevant: WHS Act 2011, WHS Regulation 2011, Operating manual Legislation/Guidelines/Standards Procedure Actions Hazard Controls 1. Pre-checks Perform a visual check of machine including electrical cords, power board & outlet & the compressor. Notify your supervisor immediately if there are any electrical faults. 2. Control panel Main on/off switch. Thermostat Fan (blows hot air onto the plastic whilst in the heat tunnel) Heater ON button Speed control for the chain conveyor (into the heat tunnel) Turn the compressor ON. Turn power to the machine ON. Turn the machine ON. 3. Start the machine Emergency STOP Machine ON Note: the compressor is inside the white unit behine the shrink-wrapper. 4. Set-up the stock Square up the plastic. Place the stock on the preparation table. There are two ways to wrap: perform a tight shrink-wrap where the stock will go through the heat tunnel, or perform a loose bag wrap where the material will be loosely wrapped & not processed through the heat tunnel. Place stock up against the end of the plastic insert. Move the stock onto the green conveyor & position it up against the edge of the L-bracket. Activate the sealing bar by depressing the foot pedal. Keep hands & fingers clear of the sealing bar.
